Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping
Just a mile or two east of Brookhaven,
SouthPark Mall features various department stores, boutiques, and restaurants. The Mall occupies over a million square feet, and is one of the most profitable in the country (especially Black Friday weekend). The Mall has expanded over the years and today contains its own residences and Symphony Park, an outdoor concert venue.
After a long afternoon shopping, many visit
BrickTop’s, located across the street from Symphony Park. Gourmet New American is the name of the game at BrickTop’s, which operates several locations throughout the U.S. Beyond its signature steaks and cocktails, BrickTop’s stands out for its Christmas Eve and Christmas Brunch carryout options that promise to make holiday dining a breeze. You can find
Toscana, a lovely Italian restaurant, in the same building as BrickTop’s.
Located in the SouthPark Mall complex,
Cafe Monte French Bakery and Bistro is the perfect treat any time of day. Their French fare is both genuine and affordable, and the dessert menu is even better than you might expect (try the eclairs).
Things to Do
The Union Exchange is a local farm worth exploring. It's generally rented out for weddings and corporate events, but there is also an on-site market, a pond, and natural areas to check out. Patrons enjoy it for their coffee and artisan offerings.
For additional time outdoors, visit
Colonel Francis Beatty Park. Lots of open green space exists here, as well as walking paths that bring you by the water. It's a common site for community events and gatherings.
Monroe Country Club offers a favorable golf course. Though the course is beginner-friendly, it does offer a bit of a challenge compared to many options in the state. That's what makes it one of the best to test your skills.
Schools
Union County Public Schools serve communities in the area. Students may attend:
- Antioch Elementary School, grades K–5
- Weddington Middle School, grades 6–8
- Weddington High School, grades 9–12
